Day Workshops
Batik - on cotton
Thursday 17th July 2025 10-5pm

Design your own batik artwork, draw from life and translate it into this ancient textile medium. With expert guidance and patience 'M'will guide you through this complex layering process, using melted wax and dyes. This workshop is aimed at beginners and those wanting to improve their skills using the ancient Indonesian art form

Experimental drawing
Tuesday 16th September 10-4pm 2025

Using natural forms as our focus you will start with a series of fun and fast drawing exercises before experimenting with different mediums and tools such as charcoal, inks and bamboo, working individually and in pairs with more in depth drawing time in the afternoon.

Drawing with Charcoal
Tuesday 23rd September 2025 10-4pm

Pencil, willow, compressed and powder, this workshop introduces you to all of these different types of charcoal. using natural forms as our starting point, we will work partly figurative and then explore into the abstract. We will work individually and in pairs. At the end of the day we will have time to look at each others work and reflect on our own journey with this versitile medium.

Abstract Batik, focusing on mark making with hot wax, looking at shapes and colour, this workshop is about experimenting with this fascinating ancient Indonesian artform.

Collograph Printmaking

Come and learn how to make a collograph printing plate out of cardboard, sandpaper, string, glue and parcel tape. This workshop links very well with the Tetra Pak printing

Explore drawing in a playful expeimental way, using techniques that are designed to free us up. We will work with charcoal, large brushes, pastels and inks, using tools such as feathers, sticks, sponge brushes and our hands. We will work together and individually and aim to challenge and surprise ourselves!
Weekly printmaking evening course
Starting in the Autumn - 6-8pm

£150 for 6 sessions ( includes most paper and materials)
This 6 week introduction to tetra pak and box printing will give you the time and space to create a number of plates using recycled items. You will learn to ink them up and print them on different papers using the intaglio process.

Immerse yourself in art for a whole week. Experiment with new techniques and processes, face your fears and discover your own creative passion!
Based around an evolving still life as a jumping off point, enjoy a playful time with colour and mark making. We will then create collages, learn batik, collograph printing and charcoal drawings , if the sun is out we will do cyanotype too!. All materials included.
Mornings will be tutor lead for the first 4 days, then the last day you will choose the medium you enjoyed the most, and develop it. Limited spaces available - open to all . Lunch and refreshments included.
Summer School - Art & Creative writing
Monday 18th August - 22nd August 10-5pm - £450
Auhor Olivia Levez and artist Marie-Therese King are in the process of designing this exciting week of creative writing and drawing. Combining the two, we will learn how to illustrate and incorporate words and art with place. Mostly studio based, there will also be walks on the Malvern hills to inspire and inform. Each day will have library hour to learn about new artists and writers. This course is aimed at beginners of both creative writing and drawing. Limited spaces available - open to all . Lunch and refreshments included.

About Us

Marie-Thérèse King
Batik artist, printmaker, musician, designer, teacher and all round creative.
She came to Malvern 27 years ago having completed her first large glass commission for Parrys, her bold hand cut sandblasted art nouveau design transformed the shop front of the family run jewellers at the lower end of Church Street.
Marie-Thérèse also has a long history of inspiring and being inspired by children she started Eekbatik in 2004 and has worked with children all over the country for over 14 years creating 100’s giant Eekbatiks for Schools.
She continues to develop her own practise and exhibits with the Worcestershire Guild of Contemporary Crafts. Having recently found the Coach House Studio she is running day workshops a weekly expressive drawing class and two 5 x day Summer schools for adults.

Sarah Jones
Sarah Jones studied Graphic Design and Printmaking at Camberwell School of Art in the 70's. She then went on to have careers in both music and homoeopathy.
She returned to the visual arts in 2004 and joined “M” to set up Eekbatik teaching batik in schools. In 2021 she completed an MA in Fine Art at HCA and has continued to explore abstract painting in 2D and as expanded painting using colour on wooden posts. Her 'posts' have been exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Show and at the Royal West Academy in Bristol.
